The main portion of the NBA's free agency period is coming to a close, but former MVP Derrick Rose still hasn't made a decision on where he intends to play next season.
Rose has been at the center of some pretty interesting free agency rumors ever since the Knicks drafted point guard Frank Ntilikina out of France with their lottery pick in the draft this year, with many rumors suggesting Rose could be headed to San Antonio or even Milwaukee.
And now, according to a source close to the Lakers organization, Derrick Rose has scheduled a meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers sometime today.
A user by the name of 'LGD' on LakersGround.net, a Los Angeles Lakers forum, has stated that "Things around this time can change very quickly. But as of today, a meeting between the Lakers brass and Derrick Rose is scheduled for tomorrow."
LGD has been confirmed as a reliable source by several people.
Very interesting indeed.
If this is indeed true, it's a bit of a head-scratching move from Magic Johnson.
Recent draftee Lonzo Ball has wowed everyone with his performances in the Summer League, and seems to be the Lakers' star for the future, so it doesn't make a lot of sense for LA to be pursuing Rose, who is still a starter-caliber point guard in today's NBA, posting averages of 18 points and 4.4 assists last season with the Knicks.
Maybe the Lakers want to bring the fragile Rose off the bench to mentor Lonzo and turn him into a young MVP candidate just like Derrick was?
If Los Angeles can nab Rose for a bargain price, and Derrick is happy to help facilitate the growth of the Lakers' young guards, Magic may get a steal.
