Report: Last Year, The Clippers Almost Traded A Huge Star For Clint Capela

My, how things have changed.

In just one season, the entire NBA landscape has changed dramatically. The Los Angeles Clippers are a perfect example.

In a span of a few months, they lost Chris Paul, Jamal Crawford, and J.J. Reddick to opposing teams. Without those guys on the team, this season was expected to act as a transition period, as they attempted to find their identity sans Chris Paul.

For the Clippers, one of their biggest stories is not something they did, but rather something they didn't do.

According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the Clippers almost traded away one their core pieces last year, in exchange for a Center that really lacks all that much pizzaz.

As Lowe reported, the Clips were engaged in talks with the Rockets about a possible DeAndre Jordan/CLint Capela swap. The trade would have included several other players and draft picks. According to Lowe, the deal fell apart, but not before gaining "semi-serious" traction.

These days, it's no secret that no NBA player's job is safe. They could find themselves in a new city at any time.

But to think the Clippers would have traded away such a substantial part of their team in exchange for Clint Capela seems rather nonsensical. Considering where the Clippers are now, and how much they'll need D.J. this upcoming season, the potential deal falling apart must seem like a relief for them, looking back on it now.
