Phil Jackson Hints That Kristaps Porzingis Could Be Traded Before The Draft

Could Kristaps Porzingis be on the move?

Yes, you read that right, the New York Knicks are actively listening to offers for Kristaps Porzingis.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Knicks want a top 4 pick in the upcoming draft in return for their young star. Ever since Porzingis skipped his exit interview with Phil Jackson, the Latvian’s future with the team has been somewhat uncertain. To no surprise, the Knicks desire a hefty return for the former fourth overall pick.

Just one day before the 2017 NBA Draft, Knicks President Phil Jackson seemed to confirm the rumors. Jackson stated:

“As much as we love the guy, we have to do what’s best for the club.”

Porzingis, who averaged 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds last season was thought by many to be a major building block going forward. However, dealing Porzingis may not actually be what is best for the franchise.

Over the past year, it has become very clear that there the New York Knicks are facing bigger issues. First, former All-Star Carmelo Anthony was reportedly frustrated over how Knicks management handled his situation and at season's end, it was Porzingis who, as previously noted, skipped his exit interview due to frustration over the drama and dysfunction surrounding the organization. Not only does the Knicks alienation of their players taint their league-wide reputation, it also has made many free agents hesitant to sign with the team this summer.

It is however, worth noting that Porzingis’ brother Janis re-stated the 21-year-old’s desire to remain with the team:

"Despite how the Knicks are treating their players, Kris wants to stay in New York," Janis Porzingis said. "He loves the city, and he loves the fans and he wants to win with this team. If he's going to be traded, he's going to play out his contact and decide his future on his own."

This is definitely one of the more shocking rumors to arise over the course of the past few weeks. With the NBA Draft just one day away, Porzingis may be on the move sooner rather than later.

Either way, it has become clear that there are changes that need to be made within the New York Knicks organization that go beyond the players. Lastly, as always remember to keep it locked to Fadeaway World for more on this developing situation.
