NBA Trade Rumors: Top Three Destinations for Tony Allen

Tony Allen Trade Rumors

The Memphis Grizzlies were supposed to be flying with the Western Conference elite this year. Instead, they find themselves searching for an identity at 6th in the Conference. This was certainly not the start the Grizz were expecting, and certainly not the start they were hoping for.

According to Ron Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal, the Memphis Grizzlies are listening to potential suitors for the services of Tony Allen via trade.

Perhaps this slow start is a reason why rumors are circulating about a possible move before the trade deadline on February 23rd. The player possibly on the block? Shooting guard Tony Allen, who many consider to be the heart of the Grizzlies.

For Memphis to give up such a valuable player, they’d need something significant in return. Here are three scenarios that might actually work for both teams involved.

Indiana Pacers

The Pacers need juice on defense, and the Grizzlies need a boost on offense. And while Mont Ellis isn’t the second coming of Ray Allen, he brings a lot of offensive firepower to the table. In order to get him though, the Grizz would need to pair Tony Allen with a guy like Troy Daniels to make enough room under the salary cap. A Paul George-Tony Allen combo would be absolutely scary for opposing offenses, and an Ellis-Conley backcourt would equal quite an upgrade on the offensive side for the Grizz. The upside is there for both sides.

Utah Jazz

A less likely scenario could involve Allen pairing up with George Hill in Utah. The Grizz could take Dante Exum and Shelvin Mack in exchange, which would mean that Memphis would be taking itself out of win-now mode. A young guy like Exum (who seems like a project) would take the tie to develop. But if Memphis decides to go younger, and Utah decides to add more depth, than this could be a promising trade that could work for both sides.

Atlanta Hawks

If Kyle Korver can remain a knockdown shooter for at least another 2-3 years, he can be a very valuable asset for teams looking for offense. For the Grizz, it's exactly what they need. A Tony Allen, Brandon Wright trade for Kyle Korver and Kris Humphries would be huge for both sides. For Atlanta, it adds athleticism and veteran leadership off the bench. For the Grizzlies, it adds to knock down shooters who can really change the pace of the game.

As the season drags on, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Grizzlies need to do something. With these possible trade deals, they could take that next into moving the direction they want to go.
