It sounds pretty crazy that a player as important to his team as Paul George is, could possibly be going anywhere. But according to multiple reports, that may very well be the case. But what motive could Indiana or Detroit have to make such a game changing trade? Is there ANY truth to this insane rumor?

Well, here’s what we do know: The Pacers stink. After a summer of getting some pretty decent players, they were expected to make a lot of noise this season. And Paul George was supposed to lead them far into the playoffs. The way Indiana looks now, even making the playoffs might be a little out of reach at this point. And while Paul George has certainly not been terrible this year, he has not lived up to the level everyone thought he would be.

Rather than being in the MVP conversation, he is only averaging 20.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. It seems clear to Indy that this team just doesn’t work, and they may be ready to pull the plug. For the Pistons, they seem to know they will never get too far with their current roster. In order to possibly get George, Detroit would have to provide a significant player and at least a couple draft picks.

And yes, while Detroit seemed perfectly content with their roster so far… maybe there’s something else going on that none of us really understand just yet. Maybe the Pistons front office does not like what it sees in the locker room or on the basketball court. Just for the sake of our curiosity, what might a trade of this magnitude look like? Well, it would likely involve George with Monta (possibly) for somebody like Reggie Jackson, Tobias Harris and some first rounders.

Indiana could try putting Teague at the backup spot, or slide him down to shooting guard. Either way, the trade would likely mean that the Pacers are essentially voting to start over with young guys, while Detroit would be in more of a win-now mode, with the George-Drummond pairing likely wrecking havoc for the league. There has not been any official statements from either team yet regarding the rumor, so there’s a more than decent chance this is all some crazy made-up news story. But we shouldn’t completely ignore these rumblings, because there is definitely a clear motive by both teams to want to shake things up.
