Goran Dragic plays really great this season, averaging 19.2 points, 6.7 assists and 4.0 rebounds, but Miami Heat President Pat Riley said a month ago that he would like to acquire another draft pick 2017.
In the last 10 games, Miami have only 3 wins, and that could a sign to start rebuilding a roster for the next season. They have a decent starting lineup, and besides Hassan Whiteside, Justise Winslow and Goran Dragic, they really don't have future potential for the next season.
Pat Riley wants to find one young player and one superstar who can help Hassan Whiteside in years to come. If Heat trade Dragic, they would have $42.3 million dollars in cap space, which allows for the signing of multiple max contracts during next year’s free agency frenzy.
Dragic is open to a trade, league sources told The Vertical, and Miami has pursued that option. An early season swap with Sacramento for Rudy Gay fell apart when the Heat sought Darren Collison, sources said, and teams that have probed Miami about Dragic have found the Heat open to offers.
It’s no secret that the Kings are desperate to get rid of Rudy Gay before the end of the season because Gay will opt out of his contract after the 2016-17 season. Because of this, the Kings have been shopping him around since last year, and the Heat seem to have taken the interest.
But this trade fell apart, and we don't know if they will try once again.
However, Miami can find a good destination for Goran Dragic.
Orlando Magic need a point guard and maybe straight trade for Serge Ibaka sounds well for both sides.
Also, we shouldn't forget Philadelphia Sixers, because they want to trade Nerlens Noel, according to the sources.
Just imagine Miami Heat' duo next season - Hassan Whiteside & Nerlens Noel. If they can get top pick 2017, Pat Riley will once again prove that he is one of the smartest persons in the NBA.
Milwaukee Bucks need a trustful point guard and maybe Goran Dragic could lead them with Giannis Antetokounmpo next season?
