The latest reports to emerge from the world of NBA trade rumors is the prospect of 4-time All-Star Paul George joining the Boston Celtics.
With a week left until the trade deadline, the Celtics have reportedly expressed their interest in the Pacers small forward. The Celtics are on the verge of being in contention for the NBA title at the moment but if they added George to the roster we would definitely see the Celtics become one of the favorite teams to win the NBA Championship this year.
So far this season the Indiana Pacers haven’t been great and currently have a 29W-27L record. Before the season started people were backing Indiana to have a great season but it just hasn’t been the case and the team hasn’t really been amazing together. Paul George was also meant to be a MVP candidate this year but we haven’t really seen him do anything special throughout the season. He’s been good but not as good as he could be and people seem to think that a change of scenery for George would suit him best.
George is currently averaging 22.4ppg, 3.3 apg and 6.2 rpg in his second proper season after returning from that nasty leg injury he picked up just before the 2014-2015 season started. George is the centerpiece of Indiana’s team but it has been suggested many times that he should be traded away in order for the Indiana Pacers to bring in some younger talent and start over.
George has Mvp potential and if he was linked up with Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford it would be scary to think what the trio could do together.
In order to bring George to Boston, the Celtics would probably have to trade away Jae Crowder and another player like Marcus Smart to the Pacers. The Celtics also have some draft picks for the next few NBA Drafts that could interest the Pacers if they do choose to start over and begin a ‘rebuild’ process.
It’ll be interesting to see do the Celtics pursue George. There have also been rumors of both Jimmy Butler and Carmelo Anthony trades to Boston but it’s still unclear what’s going to happen with the Celtics.
George would suit the Celtics if he were to be traded there and he would definitely strengthen Boston’s side as they fight to try and keep the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference, especially as it is getting tougher by the day. The Raptors have added Serge Ibaka to their roster recently while the Cavaliers still remain a ‘Super Force’ in the NBA. There’s also teams like the Washington Wizards and Atlanta Hawks who are fighting to get home advantage in the NBA Playoffs so the East is tougher than ever at the minute.
One thing for sure and that is - If Paul George is traded to the Celtics it would be mouth-watering to see a trio of Isaiah Thomas, Paul George and Al Horford together on the court. Add in the likes of Avery Bradley and Amir Johnson and you’ve got yourself a title contending team right there.
