It was announced recently that Ibaka will be making the move to Canada to link up with the Toronto Raptors. In return, the Orlando Magic will receive Terrence Ross and a 2017 first-round Draft pick. This is a good deal for both sides as the Magic will be happy with the Draft pick and they are also receiving Terrence Ross in the deal while the Raptors now have their ‘Big 3’ in DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka.
Air Congo has averaged 15.1 ppg and 6.8 rpg so far in the season but we will most likely see his numbers go up in Toronto as he will be a key factor as to how far the Raptors will go in the NBA playoffs this season. Ibaka will also be one of the main parts of Toronto’s defense now as they will be counting on him to provide them with stops on the defensive end as well as points and rebounds on the offensive end of the court.
In the past few weeks, Toronto have been in terrible form with a 4W-10L record since the 18th of January. The Raptors missed the chance to take the top spot in the Eastern Conference during the Cavs extremely bad spell of play and now lie 5th in the East. The Raptors have the potential to go far in the playoffs if they get themselves together as soon as possible and start getting wins once again.
With the addition of Ibaka, Toronto should now be able to cause the Cleveland Cavaliers major problems if they meet them in the NBA Playoffs and in a 7-game series we should see it going all the way to the wire between the two forces.
Ibaka’s going to have a lot of pressure on his shoulders straight away to help get the Raptors back to their winning ways. With the All-Star break coming up it’ll give the Raptors some time to work together on chemistry issues and it will give them a break as they get ready to go into the last stretch of the regular season before the NBA playoffs begin.
