There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Houston Rocket James Harden is the MVP this season. In fact, he's probably had the award locked up since before the All-Star break, but that hasn't dettered the New Orleans Pelicans from trying to push Anthony Davis' name into the mix.
The Rockets came into New Orleans to face the Pelicans last night, and dispatched Davis and Co. with a score of 107-101. Harden had 32 points and 11 rebounds in the win, as well as 8 assists, but AD was no slouch either, posting 26 points and 13 rebounds on 61% shooting from the field.
Davis has been on a tear as of late, leading the Pelicans to the 3rd seed at one point after an insane end of February and start of March without DeMarcus Cousins beside him. The Pelicans decided to try and take advantage of Davis' recent form, and offered free beard shaves during the game against the Rockets, handing out 'AD4MVP' shirts for anyone who took up the challenge.
It doesn't take a genius to work out what the Pelicans were trying to convey here.
Even though Anthony Davis has been the driving force behind the Pelicans' recent surge in the West, he has cooled off as of late, and due to how close the playoff race in the West has been, because of a loss here and there, New Orleans currently sit in eighth place, only a game and a half above the ninth-placed Clippers.
Sorry AD, but The Beard definitely has the MVP wrapped up this season. There's always next season though.
