The relationship between James Harden and Kevin McHale must be worse than we all thought.
It started when Kevin McHale made comments about James Harden, whom he used to coach back in Houston. McHale blasted Harden, claiming that the superstar lacked leadership ability.
Those comments didn't go unnoticed, as Harden took time to respond to his former coach:
"He's a clown, honestly. I did anything and everything he asked me to do. I've tried to lead this team every day since I stepped foot here in Houston. To go on air and just downplay my name, when honestly he's never taught me anything to be a leader... But I've done a great job. The organization, my coaches, you can ask any of those guys how I've worked extremely hard every single day to better myself, obviously as a basketball player, but be a leader as well. To go on air and downplay my name like that, it just shows his character. I usually don't go back and forth on social media with anybody or with interviews, but I'm going to stand up for myself, and there it is. But you just don't go and do that. It shows what type of person he is."
Even though James took an aggressive tone, his words ring some truth to anybody who's paid attention.
Since day one, the star shooting guard has taken on the "top-dog" role in Houston, saving the franchise from what would otherwise be an unproductive time. Even though he gets criticism for some of his playing strategies, the Rockets wouldn't be nearly the team they are today.
Going into the 2017-18 NBA season will provide a lot of opportunities for James Harden. But, for sure, one of them will involve proving the haters wrong.
