Before he signed his $47 million deal with the Chicago Bulls, there were reports that Dwyane Wade was thinking about taking a pay cut to reunite with former Heat teammate LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers and increase his chances at another championship ring.
While that idea was quickly dismissed in favor of more lucrative options, the 34-year-old Wade confirmed to Slam Online's Leo Sepkowitz that he did, in fact, consider moving to the Land during his free agency before ultimately deciding that it wasn't a good fit:
"For me, it's as simple as, I got a deal in Miami for $41 million, I got a deal in Chicago for $47 million," Wade says. "It didn't come down to the money. I thought about Cleveland, but I didn't fit there. You don't just do something because, oh, I could win the ring there. I have three rings. I don't need to chase the ring. This is what I wanted to do. I couldn't fight it. If you fight it, you're gonna always be like, 'You shoulda', or, 'What could've' — I don't like to live my life like that."
After spending 13 seasons in Miami, Wade joined the Bulls on a two-year contract in July. He'll connect with James when the Bulls take on the Cavaliers on Dec. 2.
With Dwyane Wade, the Cavs could have a super team, but he made a good decision because didn't want to chase the ring.
Imagine the matchups in the NBA Finals: Irving, Wade, LeBron, Love against Curry, Thompson, Durant and Green. I will just said WOW!
