It's undeniable, and has been for some time. Dirk Nowitzki is the greatest player in Dallas Mavericks history, and one of the greatest foreign talents the NBA has ever seen.
The German power forward leads the Mavs in played games, points scored, rebounds, three-pointers, and has been the franchise's star player seemingly his entire career. He has one MVP to his name, 13 All-Star appearances, and the jewel in his crown, the 2011 NBA championship, along with the 2011 Finals MVP. Dirk IS the Dallas Mavericks.
On top of these numerous accolades, Dirk is also known as being extremely unselfish. He has taken pay cut after pay cut every contract year so Mark Cuban and the Mavs can try and land star free agents. Just look at how much he has sacrificed over the years.
Has it been all for nothing though? For all the millions Nowitzki has given up, how many big free agents has Dallas signed? Chandler Parsons, who isn't even on the team anymore?
You're not the only one who can't fathom why Dallas can't sign anyone, even with the millions saved off Dirk's contracts. Dirk can't believe it either.
Regardless, Nowitzki is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, a Dallas legend, an NBA legend, and a basketball legend, and those are things $194 million in lost earnings can't buy.
