We all know just how badly LeBron James wants to overtake Michael Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all-time, as it has been his number one motivation ever since winning a title for Cleveland, hell, it's been his motivation ever since he entered the league.

Winning rings is James' number one priority, as long as he has a chance at grabbing 6 titles, LeBron doesn't care what else happens. That's why when free agency hits at the end of this season, all eyes will be on James if the Cavs aren't able to win another championship with him leading the ship. Los Angeles -- both the Lakers and Clippers -- have been rumored to be leading the race for LBJ, but a close business partner of James, Maverick Carter, has recently explained what James will be valuing the most heading into free agency.

“These days, it doesn’t matter anymore. The Lakers and the Knicks have been bad — the Knicks for a very long time, the Lakers since Kobe aged out of being one of the best players in the league,” Carter said. “You can be known or be a star from anywhere — anywhere in the world ... When you win as an athlete, that matters the most.”

With Carter's close ties to James, it's hard to take his word for anything but the truth, which leaves the Lakers and Clippers in quite a different situation. Both teams aren't exactly championship contenders at the moment -- the Lakers have a 3-5 record and are rebuilding with Lonzo Ball, and while the Clippers are at the top of the West, it is extremely unlikely they stay there for the entire season -- which means that those two squads could very well be crossed off LeBron's list of potential destinations.

If they Lakers are banking on James heading their way in the summer of 2018, they may want to rethink their plans for the future.
