It’s always wonderful to kickstart our imagination and wonder what could’ve been if some of the best players in the world played alongside one another in a Michael Jordan - Scottie Pippen or Kobe Bryant - Shaquille O’Neal kind of way, even though some of that can never happen.
Over history, dream duos have been extremely successful in their quest for NBA stardom, and even though today’s all about the big three or the superteam, there are some duos we feel would be more than enough to go the distance and win it all.
So today, we’re going to let you know about the top 10 Dream Duos in the league right now, hoping we actually get to see one of this pairings happen in real life before they decide to retire from the game.
7. Damian Lillard - Nikola Jokic
Damian Lillard is one of the fastest players in the league and an incredible scorer that would’ve been way more effective if he played off the ball, and that’s exactly where Nikola Jokic enters the picture, being the responsible of running this team’s offense to free Lillard of the playmaking duties.
Jokic is one of the best passers in the world despite his size and position, and we already know what Lillard’s capable of doing when locked down. Defense would be a major issue, obviously, but the two of them could single-handedly outscore their rivals with great ease.
6. James Harden - Karl-Anthony Towns
Karl-Anthony Towns has proved that the hype that surrounded him wasn’t an overreaction, as he’s the most talented big man in the league by a long shot right now. Towns has range, is great at the pick and roll, has a great ceiling on the defensive end and is a very committed player in both ends of the floor.
So, if you put a proven veteran and incredible playmaker and scorer like James Harden besides him, things get extremely interesting. Harden has shown to be more than keen to reach the NBA Finals and he’s matured a lot along the way, but he’s lacked the All-Star caliber support cast that he could have with KAT.
5. Stephen Curry - Anthony Davis
There have been a lot of people that state that Anthony Davis might as well be Golden State’s kryptonite, being an athletic freak with a range that’s also an elite rim protector that could match up very nicely against them.
Still, with this kind of pairing, there simply wouldn’t be a way to stop both of them, with him aggressively attacking the lane to leave a wide-open Stephen Curry from three-point territory. With this kind of forces in offense and Davis making up for Steph’s defensive liabilities, they would pretty much destroy everybody.
4. LeBron James - Kristaps Porzingis
It seems like there is some bad blood between the two after LeBron’s comments regarding the Knicks should’ve drafted Smith Jr instead of Ntikilina, but if they played together, they would be some of the most impossible players to stop in the history of the league.
Both of them are very good defenders, and while James has made a living of points below the rim, Porzingis seems to have unlimited range. Besides, with James playing at the 4 as a point forward and Kristaps at center, they could go small with an all shooting line up like the Warriors usually feature.
3. Russell Westbrook - DeMarcus Cousins
We all know nobody deserves a ring more than Russell Westbrook already, and nobody’s more desperate to get one than DeMarcus Cousins. Considering how competitive, fierce, harsh and incredibly talented both players are, they would ball lights out together on a nightly basis regardless of their opposition.
Westbrook is one of the most crafty passers in the league while Cousins has matured his game a lot ever since leaving the Kings, becoming a willingful passer and even a rim protector. With Russell being a one-man fast break and DMC trailing, they could push up tempo in every possession.
2. Kyrie Irving - Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant is pretty much a 7 feet point guard, with those smooth handles and ability to run an offense with great ease. On the other hand, we’ve got the man with the best handles and crossover in the entire league, and one of the most versatile and clutch scorers the NBA has seen in a very long while.
These players together could single-handedly destroy every other team in the league, with Kyrie’s improved defense now that he’s motivated and Kevin Durant’s ability to guard all 5 spots and protect the rim with his length and athleticism.
1. Giannis Antetokounmpo - Kawhi Leonard
Ok now, this is sick, could you just imagine the Greek Freak and the Klaw altogether? Who could score against them? Giannis’s length makes him perhaps the most versatile player in the league, being able to play and guard all 5 spots with great ease, while Kawhi Leonard can single-handedly lock down the best scorers in the world on a nightly basis.
They’re both incredibly humble and hard-working guys that wouldn’t hesitate to give up touches to make the team better. Besides, they’ve both improved their offensive repertoire on a yearly basis and if Giannis manages to get a better shooting stroke, they could both be MVP frontrunners even if they’ve played alongside one another.
