If you live on planet Earth, you've probably heard the insanely popular song, "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi. Both the original and the Justin Bieber remix have gained huge popularity all over the globe. Even those that aren't huge fans of the song have to admit: it's pretty catchy.
The song inspired us to create a really unique NBA list. Because the song originated in Latin America, we took some of the biggest Latino American NBA stars and created a super fun, light hearted squad: The All-NBA Despacito Team.
Born in Barcelona, Ricky Rubio became a premier basketball prospect at a young age. His crazy good passing ability and basketball IQ captured the attention of many NBA scouts. When he was finally drafted to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2009, people were expecting huge things from the Latino point guard. By many accounts, he never did live up the hype. But as far as Spaniards go, he's probably among the best the game has right now. Not to mention, he looks great in a sombrero!
If the name didn't give it away, Calderon is indeed of Spanish descent. Like Rubio, he was also born in Spain. Unlike Rubio, nobody expected him to be a star. While he's played decent roles in Dallas and Toronto, he never really had the makings of a star. Despite that fact, he's still a great asset for any team to pick up, whether it's for basketball or to jam to Despacito. He's got a good source of veteran locker room knowledge and leadership. Every team needs their older vet, and this Despacito super squad is no different.
What good is a Latino American team without a Puerto Rican? Well, thanks to J.J. Barea, we don't have to find out! Admittedly, he's not the biggest name on the list. But he's got that dog attitude and mentality in him that every team craves. He does all the dirty work while playing a selfless game in the meantime. When you think of a team like this, Barea is the type of guy you won't want to forget to include. Besides, he's got the face of a true Despacito star.
Everyone saw this coming, and not just because he's in the picture. Like pretty much everyone else on the list, Marc is a true Spaniard who loves the game of basketball. This 'Despacito' team just wouldn't be the same without him. Not only can he seemingly rock a poncho, but he's also got insane soccer skills. If you've ever seen those dead ball moments during when he's using the basketball like a soccer ball, you'll know what we're talking about.
Pau Gasol completes the twin tower big men combo! It's no secret that Pau and Marc are brothers. While they've both had awesome careers thus far, it's debatable as to which one is actually better. On this team though, that doesn't matter. The great thing about Pau Gasol is that he works so well with others. He;s never involved in the drama, and never creates trouble. If you need a big brother, Pau can be your guy. If you need someone to sing you Despacito at night, he can also be your guy.
