Imagine this starting lineup... Chris Paul, _________, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan? Is this the best lineup in the NBA?
Kevin Durant and the Los Angeles Clippers met for approximately four hours Friday night in the Hamptons, and sources close to the situation say Durant was “blown away” by the Clippers’ presentation.
According to a source, Durant was incredibly impressed by the vision and direction of the Clippers and made a strong connection with those at the meeting.
Chris Paul did not make it to the meeting but spoke to Durant beforehand and made his pitch over the phone; the two have talked throughout the process, including last week, sources told ESPN.
How can they sign Kevin Durant?
Let's assume that Clippers trade JJ Redick and CJ Wilcox in the offseason, and if Paul Pierce decides to retire, the Los Angeles Clippers could have enough money to sign Kevin Durant.
My projection is that Clippers could sign him the 1+1 year. Why? If Durant accepts a small discount this year, the Clippers could have enough space to sign 2-3 players with an experience, so they can attack the NBA Championship immediately.
He could find everything he wants in the Los Angels Clippers. Blake Griffin is a better player than Serge Ibaka, DeAndre Jordan is a better than Steven Adams and Chris Paul is the real point guard, not like Russell Westbrook, who is a scoring guard and Kevin Durant has a problem with him, because he needs a player who can assist him and create the enough space to play isolation or to play in the post against the smaller guards.
The difference here is obvious. Los Angeles is a bigger market than Oklahoma City. Doc Rivers is amongst top 5 coaches in the league.
Russell Westbrook is a great player (top 5 in the league), but Durant needs Chris Paul, because CP3 understands how to share the ball and how to assist after pick & roll.
Also, imagine this situation: Kevin Durant is on the elbow and Blake Griffin is in the post. Who can stop them? Griffin improves post moves, and many teams are sending two players to guard Kevin Durant. In this situation, Chris Paul will have enough space to assist DeAndre Jordan or Kevin Durant. They could have the best offensive weapons in this league.
I know it will be a tough decision for Kevin Durant. I told you already that he will probably sign for the Oklahoma Thunder (1+1), but he has a tremendous offer on the table.
Los Angeles Clippers are even better than New York Knick's offer. They have three players in their primes, and with Kevin Durant, they could have a Big 4. Teams like the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs can sell Durant on becoming the third piece of a Big 3, the L.A. Clippers have a different kind of plan — Come join a Big 4!
Is this enough for Kevin Durant to change his mind and sign with Los Angeles Clippers? We'll see in the next few days.
Durant still has the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, and San Antonio Spurs to meet with before one more round with the Thunder.
