Every Player Who Is Currently Getting Paid Not To Play For Their Former Teams
Sometimes, NBA GM's make mistakes. It's human nature. Sometimes they are hypnotized by players having a career year before they hit free agency, and proceed to lock them up for multiple years, paying them insane amounts of money per year, only for said player to fall off the cliff and become a negative for the organization, both on the court and in the books.
Usually, general managers can redeem themselves by trading away these players so other teams have to take on their huge contracts, but other times, they just have to bite the bullet and take a risk waiving the player in hopes of another team signing them. If not, then a franchise could be paying millions of dollars for several years for a player who isn't even on the roster anymore, as we're about to find out -- hint: there's a lot of them.
Reddit user Perksofthesewalls has gone to the effort of listing every one of these players who are being paid by teams they don't even play for anymore, either via waives, retirements, or other contract shenanigans. Just a warning: Atlanta and Portland fans should look away now.

The Atlanta Hawks are paying a whopping eight players for their services even though those eight players aren't even with the team anymore. Portland will be forking out over $28 million until 2024 for three players who will never play for them again, and the Trail Blazers also are paying Andrew Nicholson almost $20 million alone for the next six years.
Portland fans, we have you in our thoughts.
