3-time All-Star - Deron Williams, is said to be signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers later today after being released by the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, just after the trade deadline ended. Williams has cleared all his waivers and should be a Cavalier by the end of the day.

Deron is now 32 years old and has proved himself to be a solid playmaker during his 12-year career in the NBA so far.

Williams had averaged 13.1 ppg and 6.9 apg in 29.3 mpg for the Mavericks this season in the 40 games he played for Dallas before he was released. The Cavaliers will be hoping that Deron can bring some of that talent to Ohio as they try to win back-to-back Championships this year. It isn’t going to be easy for the Cavs this year though as there is major competition in both the Eastern and Western Conference’s this year.

Williams has been selected as an All-Star 3 times in his NBA career and he was selected to the All-NBA second team twice, in both 2008 and 2010.

Also, during his rookie year, Deron was selected to the NBA All-Rookie team in the 2005-2006 season. Deron has also played with Team USA at the Olympics in both 2008 (Beijing) and 2012 (London) so he has some experience playing with 4-time Mvp and Cleveland Cavaliers small forward - LeBron James.

It hasn’t been an easy ride for Cleveland so far this season as they have had some problems within the team which lead to a bad start to 2017 for the Cavs as they recorded 8 losses during the month of January.

The Cavs franchise player - LeBron James, voiced his concerns in the matter saying that the Cavs needed a playmaker to run the second unit and it looks like the Cavaliers have listened to his request as Deron looks to be heading to Cleveland as soon as possible.

Deron brings a lot of depth to the team as he can now run the second unit and coming up to the playoffs, starting point guard - Kyrie Irving, will be able to get a rest in before the NBA playoffs begin as Williams will easily be able to slot into the Cavs starting unit if needs be.

Williams is also said to be joined by Australian big man - Andrew Bogut, in the coming days as the pair have both been cleared from the Maverick’s roster.

As the Cavs chase their second NBA Championship in two years, can Deron Williams be the signing the Cavs badly need in order to bring another NBA title back to ‘The Land’?

The Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Milwaukee Bucks tonight at home in the Quicken Loans Arena. Could we see Williams making his debut as a Cavalier against the Bucks tonight?
