The inaugral NBA 2K League was finally completed last night, and with it, ushered in a new age of entertainment for fans of the NBA 2K series and the NBA as a whole.
The league, the first of it’s kind for a major sports gaming title mind you, is off to an ambitious start, containing 17 teams — the Mavericks, Celtics, Jazz, Kings, Pistons, Trail Blazers, Heat, Magic, Knicks, Bucks, Raptors, Wizards, Pacers, 76ers, Grizzlies, Cavaliers and Warriors — and will pit 102 players against each other in a five-on-five format, with the very best players 2K has to offer holding roster spots.
The competition was fierce to even make the shortlist of 250 players that was eventually whittled down to the 102-player draft pool teams could select from, with over 72,000 players meeting the first threshold, which was to win 50 games on NBA 2K18’s Pro-Am circuit with their own MyCareer player.
72,000 to 102 is a huge number of players to cut, and for good reason: Players who are drafted are well looked after.
According to the league, players drafted in the first round will earn $35,000 over 6 months, while players drafted in the second round and beyond get paid a cool $32,000.

Not only will they be getting paid to play 2K18, they also receive housing and any flights/movers to their new city free of charge, health insurance and a retirement plan for free, and have the chance to earn even more money if their team is successful.
The craziest thing about all of this though? The players in the NBA 2K League will be earning more than players in the G League on the minimum salary. Insane.
It must be noted though that the NBA itself will be paying for all of these expenses, not the NBA teams affiliated with each gaming team.
