The Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James have been having one of the worst seasons since he was a rookie, and for the first time, I feel that they are not the best team in the Eastern Conference.
The Boston Celtics have depth and the Toronto Raptors are finally looking like a serious team with a good bench, while Cleveland have many problems with their roster.
They’re struggling on the court, they can’t find a good rhythm and they have one of the oldest rosters in the NBA. The fact is that Kyrie Irving requested a trade because he didn’t want to play with LeBron James anymore and he wanted to control his own destiny.
Isaiah Thomas had a great season with the Celtics back in 2016, but at this moment he is struggling to adjust and he is a not good fit alongside LeBron James and Kevin Love. So much so in fact, the Cavaliers elected to trade Thomas to the Lakers to get some youth on their team in the form of Larry Nance Jr. and Jordan Clarkson.
On the other side, Kevin Love had a good season until he fractured his left hand and he will be out until March. Even with a good season, rumors about Kevin Love haven’t stopped and maybe Cleveland will trade him if they get a good offer for him.
J.R. Smith and Tristan Thompson have almost untradable contracts, so there is virtually no way those two can be traded by the Cavs anytime soon.
We shouldn’t forget that LeBron James is a free agent this summer and with multiple reports stating that he will probably leave the Cleveland Cavaliers, but maybe the Cavs can take one desperate but perfect move to save their franchise.
A few weeks ago, Jalen Rose claimed that Kawhi Leonard wants to leave the San Antonio Spurs because they “have been unable to attract elite level, All-NBA caliber free agents,” and he was very unhappy about that.
He is one of the best players in the league, but when we see how the Spurs play well without him in the lineup, maybe it’s time for a smart move by Gregg Popovich and their GM, R. C. Buford.
Kawhi is a free agent in 2019 and he will definitely ask for a max contract, but that is not the only problem. When they have Aldridge and Leonard on the court, the Spurs are struggling to move the ball because both of them need isolation plays to score. In the last 3 seasons, they played only once in the Western Conference Finals and maybe it’s time to shake up the roster and find players who can adjust better to their system.
Is it the right time for a blockbuster trade? The Cleveland Cavaliers need to save LeBron James and the Spurs need to find a solution for the future and get younger players because Manu and Parker can’t play at the highest level anymore.
The perfect offer for both sides would look a little something like this: Kawhi Leonard for Kevin Love, the Net’s pick, and Ante Zizic.
LeBron James will be thrilled to play alongside Kawhi Leonard, and they will create the best duo in the league. On the other side, the Spurs will have Kevin Love who is an ideal fit for the Spurs, plus Brookyn’s 2018 first-round pick and Ante Zizic.
Gregg could use Kevin Love and LaMarcus Aldridge in the starting lineup, while Gasol and Zizic could come off the bench. San Antonio really needs a small rebuilding process and maybe this is a perfect chance.
Kawhi has never played all 82 games in his career, and he’ll definitely be asking for a max contract, and if the Spurs can continue to play like this with him out of the lineup, maybe Popovich will trade him this summer.
It will be very interesting for both teams to see what they will do next because, at this moment, we have at least 3 teams who are better than them: the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and Boston Celtics.
Maybe it’s time for the perfect trade that will change the destiny for both franchises.
