In case you hadn’t heard by now, former Los Angeles Clippers star power forward Blake Griffin was traded out of the blue to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a first-round and a second-round pick in a move that shocked the NBA world.
By trading Griffin to the Pistons so suddenly, the LA Clippers have turned out to look like massive liars, which is definitely not a good look.
The Clippers held their free agent meeting with Griffin at Staples. They lowered the lights in the arena and raised his jersey to the rafters as a choir sang. The PA announcer said: "Tonight, we’re honoring a lifelong Clipper."

“Lifelong Clipper” eh? How did that turn out?
During this past offseason, Blake Griffin signed a massive $173 million deal with the Clips over five years, which would theoretically keep him in LA until 2023. Griffin was wooed by owner Steve Balmer and GM Jerry West as you can see above, as they acted out Blake’s jersey retirement ceremony, selling the idea of Griffin playing for the Clippers his entire career.
Obviously, that was a straight up lie, as a mere six months later, BG was being shipped off to Detroit. Many thought that DeAndre Jordan and maybe Lou Williams would be the two Clippers who would be traded before the trade deadline, especially after the massive deal Griffin signed in the offseason.
Even though the Clippers have kickstarted their rebuilding process with this move, and have freed up a lot of cap space by trading away Blake’s huge contract, it’s gonna be mighty hard trying to sign marquee free agents after double-crossing their most loyal player in franchise history like this.
