Shaquille O’Neal one of the most dominant players in the NBA History was drafted on 1992 NBA Draft Night. He was 1st overall pick and Orlando Magic hoped that he can make them a playoff contender. He helped them to win 20 more games than in the last season, but they finished 9th in the East and missed playoffs by virtue of tie-breaker with the Indiana Pacers. Shaq was named ROY and he averaged 23.4 points and 13.9 rebounds per game during his first season.
I can’t say anything about MJ that isn’t said before. He is more popular than basketball. When you say basketball, many people will connect that immediately with Michael Jordan. He was an icon of the NBA and it isn’t strange that so many people love him.
“There’s Michael Jordan and then there is the rest of us.” – Magic Johnson
The 1992-1993 season was Jordan’s 9th and he ended the last one with a ring on his finger and Scotie Pippen and MJ won all awards that they can win. His team was better than Portland Trail Blazers 4-2 in 1992 NBA Finals and he won his 2nd ring. In the next, 1992-1993 season, he won another ring and Chicago was better than MVP of that season, Charles Barkley, and his Phoenix Suns.
On January 12th, 1993, the icon of the NBA played against the future most dominant center for the first time. Chicago Bulls won this game. The score was 122-106. Michael Jordan added up 23 points and 8 rebounds, while Shaq scored 19 and grabbed 11 rebounds. This was an overture for the Jan 16th and 2nd match when MJ scored 64 points and despite that brilliant performance, Orlando won 128-124.
Who was more dominant throughout their careers, Shaq or MJ?
