Now that Uncle Drew is out of Cleveland, he no longer has to hide his displeasure of playing for the organization.

Late last season changed things, when Irving’s name was brought up in trade rumors. Between that and a reported desire to be the number one guy, Kyrie Irving decided he’d rather be somewhere else.

But in a city like Cleveland, the small market factor is always something to keep in mind. In comments published by The Charlotte Observer, the Boston point guard discussed what it was like being in Boston:

“Boston, I’m driving in and thinking, ‘I’m really playing in a real, live sports city?” Irving told reporters on Wednesday.

“A lot of different cultures, food and people. You get it all, especially in Boston. You would go to Cleveland and it would be at nighttime and things would be going on, but you just see a vast difference.”

The difference between Boston and Cleveland is practically night and day. As one of America’s top sports cities, Boston is one of the best places in the world to play, and the atmosphere there can often be electric.

For the Celtics, Irving will have a chance to take the Eastern crown from his former team. Not only does he have a good team around him, but he gets to do things his way. Better still, he’ll get to do it in one of the best sports towns in the league.
