Fadeaway World

There has been a lot of speculation and contradictory information regarding the Kyrie Irving – Isaiah Thomas trade that was announced just a couple of days ago, with the Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly wanting to get a better trade package for their All-Star point guard that what the Celtics are trying to send him.

According to some sources, the Cleveland Cavaliers aren’t quite satisfied with the Boston Celtics’ office due to the hip injury their Isaiah Thomas suffered during the past Eastern Conference finals, and they could actually try and veto this move.

Just as a reminder, the Boston Celtics are offering Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic as well as a Brooklyn Nets 1st round pick for Kyrie Irving and his 2 years remaining on his deal, while Thomas is set to become an unrestricted free agent this next summer.

So, it’s obvious that the fact that the 28-year-old point guard is coming off a season ending injury, that he has absolutely no reason to commit to the franchise (especially if LeBron James decides to leave the team) and the fact that he may’ve already peaked and would find it quite hard to replicate this past season’s success make the Cavs raise a lot of concerns regarding this blockbuster move.

Having said that, and if the Cavs actually veto this trade, there are some teams that could actually have a better offer for them, now that the Celtics have stated that they won’t include Jayson Tatum nor Jaylen Brown in any Kyrie Irving deal. So, why don’t we take a look at those better trade deals?

3. Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers might as well go back from scratch and send newcomer Patrick Beverley to the Cleveland Cavaliers alongside their franchise cornerstone: Blake Griffin, a guy that would thrive playing small ball alongside Kevin Love and LeBron James.

LeBron would definitely be thrilled to watch Pat Beverley arrive to the land with his suffocating top-notch defense, while the Los Angeles Clippers would have a deadly duo in Irving and DeAndre Jordan, and if they tank throughout this upcoming campaign, they could pair them with a top 10 prospect as well and clear some salary cap.

2. Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the most interesting projects in the Association right now, and they’re keen to make a quality boost and acquire All-Star caliber players to play alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, one of our frontrunners to win the MVP and lead the franchise to an Eastern Conference Finals run.

In order to do that, the Bucks would have to part ways with two of their best youngsters: the reigning Rookie Of The Year Malcolm Brogdon and future All-Star Thon Maker as well as some future picks, something that would really help the Cavs clear cap-space if they manage to trade JR Smith and Iman Shumpert, and that would also really please LeBron due to both guys upside and ability to attack the paint, while also giving them two quality guys for the team’s future.

And last but not least, we get one of the most impressive trade packages any team could put together, if the Sixers get tired of trusting the process and want to enter win-now mode, dealing rookies Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz to Cleveland in order to form a deadly Saric, Irving, Embiid trio and become instant contenders in the Eastern Conference.

Of course, that would really jeopardize the team’s project while the Cavs would take a major quality bump for a season or two, but given the time and patience, Cleveland would have two of the most exciting prospects the game has seen over the last decade, making it a very hard deal to reject if the Sixers are crazy enough to try and pull it off.
