Fadeaway World

New Orleans have been successful in pairing two of the best ‘Big Men’ in the NBA together this season but it was all too late for the Pelicans as they ended up missing out on the NBA Playoffs when they finished the NBA regular season with a record of 34W-48L which left them in the 10th seed in the Western Conference.

The New Orleans Pelicans will come back more ready than ever next year to contend in the tough Western Conference in order to make a return to the NBA Playoffs. DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis won’t be able to do it alone though and they’ll need help in order to turn New Orleans back into a Playoff team.

Below is a list of five players who could sign with New Orleans in the Summer and help the franchise make the push needed to help them qualify for the NBA Playoffs next year.

5. Tony Allen

A 6’4” guard, Allen would be a great addition to the New Orleans Pelicans as he can play both the shooting guard spot and also run the point guard role for a team. Allen has been selected to five All-Defensive NBA teams in his career and is known as a top defensive player within the League.

Allen currently plays for the Memphis Grizzlies but his contract expires at the end of the season and we will see Tony become a Free Agent. Could Allen be on his way to New Orleans?

4. Deron Williams

The Cleveland Cavaliers backup point guard, Deron Williams becomes a Free agent in July. It’s likely that Williams will move on from Cleveland in the Summer and the Pelicans is a possible destination for the 31-year-old guard. Williams averaged 11 ppg and 5.6 apg during the entire 2016-2017 regular season with both the Dallas Mavericks and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Pelicans could really be the ideal landing spot for the 3-time All-Star should he choose to move on from Cleveland in the offseason.

3. Kyle Korver

A top shooter from behind the arc Korver is exactly what you would want in a shooting guard. His only downside is age isn’t on his side as he is now 36 years old. Korver could provide solid minutes off the bench for New Orleans though if he were to sign with them in Free Agency when his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers runs out.

Korver has averaged 10.1 ppg so far this season with a field-goal percentage of 46% and still has a hot hand from behind the arc with a three-point percentage of 45%. New Orleans should try hard in the offseason to lure Korver to sign with the Pelicans.

2. Andre Iguodala

Currently, the Golden State Warriors ‘Sixth Man’, Andre Iguodala’s contract expires at the end of this season. It is expected that Iguodala will not actually resign with the Warriors when the time comes to do so and it is expected that he will move on from San Francisco.

The fan-favourite small forward has averaged 7.6 ppg, 4 rpg and 3.4 apg this season for Golden State. If Iggy were to sign with New Orleans we would likely see him play the starting small forward spot for the Pelicans and if that were the case we would see Iggy’s numbers increase from what they are now. Iggy would be an ideal fit for New Orleans and there is a real possibility we could see him sign there in the Summer.

1. Chris Paul

Our last player for this article is none other than Star point guard – Chris Paul. Having already spent several years in the past playing in New Orleans with the Hornets, Paul would be welcomed back by fans with open arms. CP3 averaged 18.1 ppg and 9.2 apg this season for the Los Angeles Clippers but after being knocked out in the first round of the NBA Playoffs by the Utah Jazz it may be time for Chris Paul to leave L.A when his contract expires in July.

The Pelicans could afford to bring Paul back to New Orleans in the Summer and the thoughts of a ‘Big 3’ of Paul, Davis and Cousins is just crazy to think about.
