The Brooklyn Nets have had a rough start to the 2016-2017 season, and the tides don’t seem to be changing anytime soon. With no pick until 2019, no young standout stars, and no veteran talent the than their starting Center, the Nets seem to be trapped in their own stink.
That may be why they have finally started to look into trading away their biggest asset, Brook Lopez. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, however, the Brooklyn’s not giving him away for cheap.
After almost 9 years with the team, Brook has been one of the biggest upsides for a team with not too many bright spots. In exchange for trading away their long-time star, Brooklyn wants TWO first round draft picks…a price that only a few teams may be willing to give up.
One such team could be the Boston Celtics, who have a lot of picks and are in need of a big to pair with Al Horford. There’s also a team like the Rockets, who could greatly benefit from a post scoring center like Lopez.
Whether or not any team bites on Brooklyn’s extreme asking price for the star Center, it’s clear the Nets are becoming desperate to get out of their hole.
All of this comes after head coach Kenny Atkinson said in the beginning of the season that the Nets were “absolutely not” trading away Brook. Maybe reality has finally set in for the sad fans and front office execs in a once hopeful franchise.
