Check what teams from the Atlantic Division have to change if they want to become stronger than now.
The Celtics need a dominant Power Forward in order to get to the next level, or make a deep run in the playoffs. Amir Johnson, the Celtics current starting PF is not producing good enough to help the Celtics in their playoff run. He’s not a legitimate starting PF. He ranks near 31st in Power Forward efficiency rating, according to ESPN Hollinger. Johnson’s numbers this year? 6.5 points per game, shooting 54.3. % (All time career low) and 4.4 REB. Boston would be a better team with an upgrade at the four spot. They should consider trading for Paul Millsap to compete with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Boston Celtics need to move Horford to PF position and bring in a dominate true center. Al Horford will play better offensively and defensively.
This Nets team is in a full rebuild mode and getting players for the future. What will help this Nets team in the future is getting a player/position to build around. Brooklyn needs a Small Forward for the future of this team, a two-way player that can score and play great defense. The Nets Small Forward right now is not producing good enough numbers to build their future in the right way. They have a sophomore in Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, but he doesn’t look promising. His career numbers are 8.0 PPG 2.9 AST, 4.6 REB with an 11.58 PER. This team needs a promising Small Forward for the future in order to get anywhere. Their defense is ranked dead last, according to ESPN. They are at the bottom in opponents PPG and allowing opponents to shoot around 47%. The talent in the NBA is filled with great scoring Small Forwards, and Brooklyn needs to find one.
The 76ers are another team that’s in rebuild mode, but their rebuilding mode is almost over. They have big men and a Small Forward for the future. The Sixers are one of the teams that are going to be real good in the next couple of the years. They have young players like Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, Ben Simmons, and plenty of great assets to the front court. Philly can be a complete team if they upgraded their backcourt. Jared Bayless and Gerald Henderson are not the keys to a successful offense. Both players are veterans and do not produce good enough numbers to make the 76ers elite. For Philadelphia, the PG and SG are not averaging more than 12 PPG, and both shoot under 45 %. The 76ers will most likely be a lottery team this year (again) and should focus on finding a shooting guard, or playmaking point guard.
New York Knicks
The New York Knicks have the potential to be one of the best teams in the East, but their chemistry and defense aren’t there. New York, on paper, is one of the best teams in the NBA. The Knicks can achieve greatness if they add 2 good pieces on the bench. Those 2 players need to know how to score and be aggressive on the defensive end. New York is struggling on defense, and always get manhandled by the opponents big men. The team also needs a good backup center that’s defensive minded. A good SF/PF that can be a two-way player off the bench is also ideal. The Knicks bench is terrible, as they rank low in PPG according to NBA stats.
The Raptors are off to a good start this season. They are looking like the East real #2 team. Who knows, they COULD be the team to give the Cavs the good scare. The Raptors are a good team, and one of the most completed teams in the NBA. In order for the Raptors to compete with the best in the East, however, they need a legit PF that can contribute in a big way. The Raptors PF right now is a rookie that still needs to develop, but giving him the starting role is not the way to go about it. Pascal Siakam is an aggressive PF that can do some of the dirty work. And although he’s not a PF that can help move the Raptors to the next round yet, his numbers (4.8 PPG, 3.6 REB, Shooting 66.7% from the line) aren’t too bad. The Raptors need an elite PF that’s aggressive on the boards, similar to Paul Millsap, in order to move to the next level.
